Empathetic guidance in family legal matters

Family Law - Compassionate Guidance Through Difficult Times

Family law matters touch the most intimate aspects of human life and are often charged with strong emotions. Whether divorce, custody disputes, or maintenance proceedings - behind every case there are people with their hopes, fears, and the desire for a fair resolution. Particularly in these stressful situations, you need a lawyer who is not only legally proficient, but who also understands the emotional challenges and guides you through the process with empathy.

Our approach in family law is shaped by the conviction that even in difficult separation situations, constructive solutions are possible that keep the well-being of everyone involved - especially the children - in focus. We therefore initially rely on out-of-court settlements and mediation in order to avoid lengthy and costly court proceedings. At the same time, however, we are always prepared to vigorously defend your rights in court if an amicable solution is not possible.

In divorce proceedings, we accompany you from the first consultation through the filing of the divorce petition to the legally binding dissolution of the marriage. We transparently explain the various routes to divorce - from an amicable divorce to a contested divorce and online divorce - and find the right solution for your situation together with you. In doing so, we pay particular attention to a fair settlement of the divorce consequences such as maintenance, equalisation of accrued gains, pension equalisation and division of household goods.

In custody and access law, the interests of the children are always our central concern. We develop viable solutions for custody, access rights and child maintenance that serve the welfare of the child while taking into account the legitimate interests of both parents. In disputes over the right to determine the child's residence or in cases of threatened child abduction, we act swiftly and decisively.

Maintenance disputes are among the most frequent family-law disputes. We calculate and enforce claims for child maintenance, spousal maintenance and care maintenance just as we defend against excessive maintenance demands. In doing so, we take into account the complex calculation basis of the Düsseldorf Table (Düsseldorfer Tabelle) and ensure a fair balancing of interests.

Our lawyer Julia Gerstein-Thole has extensive experience in family law and is known for her empathetic but firm representation of clients. She knows how to argue objectively even in emotionally charged situations and to develop constructive solutions that are fair to everyone involved and sustainable in the long term.
